Groundwater-climate relationships, Ranger uranium mine, Australia: 1. Time series statistical analyses
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents the results of applying specific time series statistical techniques to observed historical groundwater-climate data at the Ranger uranium project. By developing and applying existing statistical techniques, rarely used in mining studies, improved confidence about the understanding of the groundwaterclimate relationship at the Ranger uranium project is obtained. This forms a sound basis upon which future climate scenarios can be used to predict the response of the groundwater after rehabilitation and into the long-term, especially with respect to potential climate change impacts.

Impact of uranium mines closure and abandonment on groundwater quality.
The aim of the study is to assess the evolving mine water quality of closed uranium mines (abandoned between 1958 and 1992) in the Czech Republic. This paper focuses on the changes in mine water quality over time and spatial variability. In 2010, systematic monitoring of mine water quality was performed at all available locations of previous uranium exploitation. Gravity flow discharges (mine a...

Flesh and osteoderms of estuarine crocodiles (C. porosus) from Kakadu National Park, Northern Australia, were analysed for a range of metals, including uranium, to assess their capability for accumulation, in relation to their catchment-specific exposure to i) uranium mine effluents and mineralisation and ii) lead shot ammunition through their consumption of fauna shot by the traditional owners...
متن کاملFlooding of the Königstein Underground Mine Hydraulic and Geochemical Modelling Approach Zatápění Hlubinného Dolu Königstein Hydraulické a Geochemické Modelování
Uranium was produced in the Königstein mine by conventional mining as well as underground in-situ leaching activity from a sandstone aquifer between 1964 and 1990. Due to the chemical mining and the secondary effect of pyrite oxidation the pore water of the rock matrix has a pH of less than 2 and a high content of among others uranium, iron and sulphate. Another source of contaminants are solub...
متن کاملGeochemistry, Groundwater and Pollution: "Learning by Modeling"
Predicting the fate of chemicals that leach from waste deposits and deciphering their transport in the invisible subsoil must rely on 1) understanding the pattern of groundwater flowlines and travel times, 2) insight in the chemical reactions which retard the solutes, and 3) the quality of the database of the geochemical model. Inhomogeneities in an aquifer can be deduced from tritium/helium ag...
متن کاملGeochemistry of Natural Radionuclides Associated with Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) in a Coal Mining Area in Southern Brazil
Coal is an important non-renewable energy source of and can be associated with radioactive elements. In Figueira city, Paraná state, Brazil, it was recorded high uranium activity near the coal mine that supplies a local thermoelectric power plant. In this context, the radon activity (Rn-222, produced by the Ra-226 decay in the U-238 natural series) was evaluated in groundwater, river water and ...
